Crystal-clear writing.

14/05/2010

Plain English writing allows the audience to read, understand and act upon it after reading it once.  It requires good design and layout as well as familiar language.  Information which is expressed in an obtruse and convoluted way makes readers feel patronised, frustrated and angry.  It causes a divide between the reader and the author.  The Plain English Campaign has been fighting against jargon, gobbledygook and other confusing language for over twenty years.  It promotes crystal-clear language instead.  It has many tools to help writers express themselves in plain terms.  One of those tools is “How to write in plain English” which is well worth reading.
